A GREAT EMPORIO OF BIODIVERSITY
Mainland Territory: 51,100 sq km located between 8 ° and 11 ° N latitude and 82 ° and 85 ° W longitude. 
Population: close to 4 million inhabitants.
Nicaragua is bordered to the north, the south by Panama, east by the Caribbean Sea with a coastline of 212 kms. and west by the Pacific Ocean with a coastline of 1254 km. Cocos Island (24 km2) in the Pacific is part of its territory.
With a width of 120 km territorial half the country is divided into two areas: the Atlantic slope, humid and rainy, without water deficit throughout the year and the Pacific Ocean side, drier, with a marked decrease in flow drought. 
It is located in the geographical area called the Neotropical.
Its area represents 0.03 of the planet's surface but has 5% of global biodiversity.
Costa Rica is considered one of the 20 countries with greatest biodiversity in the world Its geographical position, its two coasts and its mountainous system, which provides numerous and varied microclimates, are some reasons that explain this natural wealth, both in species and ecosystems .
Costa Rica is home to a variety of wildlife displayed in: 13,000 plants. species, 2000 butterfly species and 4500 nocturnal species, 163 amphibian species, 220 reptile species, 1,600 species of fish fresh and salt water and some 850 bird species.
ABOUT SAN CARLOS, DE LA HUERTA NORTH AREA, WHERE IS THE BIOLOGICAL RESERVE SEATED OF ASSISI FOUNDATION PROJECT
The region is part of the floodplains of the Atlantic and its relief is generally flat, alluvial fill product of the basic material of volcanic origin. The topography is characterized by hills up to 382 m. Snm, terraces with altitudes between 50 and 100 m. Snm and floodplains of land, some wetlands. 
In general, the terrain is hilly with high sides, as in the hills Congo, Platanar and volcanoes Arenal, Tenorio, Miravalles and Rincon de la Vieja, until very flat lowlands, easily flooded and swamp.
The rivers that run west are the Peñas Blancas, San Lorenzo, La Tigra, Fortuna Javillos, giving rise to the great river San Carlos.
Dominant vegetation in the area consists of pastures, forests, reforestation, scrubland, tacotales, manuals and perennial crops.
Climatic factors: The average temperature is: San Carlos 26 ° C, and in volcanic areas 20 º C. The relative humidity is 80-90% and solar radiation of 3-5 hours daily.
Precipitation: Huetar The North is in the torrid zone, therefore, has a tropical climate (dry and rainy). Winter is from May to January or February and the dry season from March to May, with some sporadic rainfall caused by cold fronts from the north. The variable rainfall on average ranging from 2000 mm / year in the plains to 5000 mm / year in the volcanic massifs.
